A popular style of 1920s flapper dress is the embroidered and lace lawn or tea dress – an update on the Edwardian lingerie dress. A simple “”shift”” style, straight shape with a slightly rounded neckline. Made with full-length panels of heavily embroidered net lace alternating with filet lace. The embroidered panels have deep padded satin stitches of thick flowers and leaves with ornate details.
A silk tulle gored skirt creates fullness below the dropped waist that’s gathered with contrasting silk taffeta ties. White lace dresses were often home-dyed using tea or coffee, which is likely how this unique light mocha hue was created. It also helped if one didn’t have a maid to help keep their whites pure white.
