1918 Chateau Ceremony (H71)

The most adorable wedding gown from 1918 in ivory satin. The front has an apron style bib surrounded by lace that attaches to a skirt. There’s a metallic lace overlay on the bodice. The skirt has a wide edging where the center fabric gathers. The tulle sides and sleeves are fully embroidered in metallic gold, some of it silvered with age. It’s amazing the detail that went into areas only the wearer would see, as demonstrated in a wide metallic lace hem on the under-dress.

Wax flower streamers attach a train to the dress on the lower left side. Another spray of flowers is positioned on the metallic lace hem under the right corner. A pretty netting ruffle edges the underside of the train and – another example of the hidden glamour – there are three more rows of the ruffle under the end of the train. Bride’s perspiration on the interior dress shields bled a light brown color under the arms and damaged the lace. There are a couple of breaks in the netting.
