Garden Party

The roaring twenties tea dress is epitomized in this 1924 ecru tulle creation. A chemise silhouette with a blouson bodice and banded waist is trimmed with rosettes in shades of pinks and blues. Shoulder straps, waistband, and hem are trimmed with rosettes in shades of pinks and blues.

The trim, leaves, and rosettes use the multi-color striped, slightly metallic ribbon used in the top design houses. Eight miniature hidden buttons down the back. Fully lined in silk chiffon. You do find labels in strange places; this ones in the underarm.

Callot Soeurs was opened by the four Callot sisters in Paris. They designed lingerie, dresses made from antique fabrics, period gowns, clothes made of lace, fine embroidered garments and Oriental gowns. Their clothes were known for exotic detail, kimono sleeves, tasseled girdles, panels of embroidered satin or velvet, and medallions. Their lingerie was extraordinarily feminine, nightgowns and chemises of gossamer silks, worked with bands of golden lace or bouquets of silk flowers. They were among the first designers to use lamé to make dresses. Silver and gold lamé dresses were very popular in the 1910’s and 1920’s
