Yellow orange beaded 1927 silk flapper with gold lamé accents lined in silk with a beautiful slip. Mixing vibrant hues and translucent tones, this dress displays the hallmarks of Prohibition-era eveningwear – a dropped waist, in this case accented by a butterfly-inspired faux belt – layered neckline, and tubular shape. The dress is complicated by its many layers of delicate fabric in various shades of yellow and orange, which are punctuated by contrasting notions of metallic thread. It is unique from every angle.
In contrast to the linear and geometric designs found on many Deco gowns, this folksy, floral motif echoes the Arts and Crafts movement of the turn of the century, and reminds us that a defining element of the Prohibition-era eveningwear is its creative interpretation of the past. Tim Gunn of Project Runway categorized this design as “”color block”” at the National Archives fashion show in 2015.
A few tiny age related stains and pulls, and two small 1” areas backed with net on the skirt of the dress. Needs to be kept flat to prevent further pulling on the fabric by the weight of the beading.
